The Portland Point is crafted with love and respect for Portland, Maine. It’s a lovely town. We have lobster. Tourists like to get driven up and down our streets. But there is room for improvement. A lot of room. Unfortunately in such a small town, we are afraid to critique – even constructively – for fear of offending. We tend to overvalue “but it was made in Maine!” While keeping it local is noble, it can’t hurt to tell it like it is in an effort to light a fire underneath, to improve and not rest on accepted mediocrity. That’s why the Portland Point speaks candidly on a variety of issues affecting all aspects of Portland life. Let’s get to the Point and get Portland up to date, thriving, and our collective creative juices flowing. That will give “Made in Portland, Maine” swagger and weight. And that benefits us all.
What’s the Point?
